The cemetery was built between 1842 and 1845 outside the prison walls within the approximately 10,000 m² facility garden north of the prison. The former asylum cemetery north of the cell prison, divided by an axillary cross, was laid out outside the wall. The facility was divided into an official cemetery to the east and a prisoner cemetery to the west that was not preserved. A central route axis opened up the cemetery from Lehrter Strasse. The burial place created for the law enforcement officers is located north of the civil servants' houses, surrounded by allotment gardens. After the demolition of the Moabit cell prison, the prison cemetery was formally de-dedicated in 1958. While the cemetery part for the prisoners was assigned to the allotment gardens, the official cemetery was preserved. It is enclosed by a simple, wrought-iron grille over a clinker plinth. Older ash and linden trees as well as maple trees are freely arranged in the cemetery area, the grave fields with the gravestones that have been preserved, but mostly lying on the ground, are overgrown with ivy.
