Mr. Lewis, 77, was a retired carpenter and a member of the Church of God, and lived on his son's ranch on Malone Road in Nesbit, MS, where he raised cattle.
Mr. Lewis, who was born in Ferriday, LA, mortgaged his home when his son was a child to buy him his first piano. He moved to Memphis in the late 1950s after Jerry Lee became an international recording artist with the release in 1956 of his first hit, " A Whole Lot of Shaking Going On".
The elder Lewis was fond of singing and entertaining and frequently attended the annual Country Music Association and Disk Jockey Convention in Nashville with his son.
Burial in Calhoun Cemetery near Clayton, LA.
He also leaves his wife, Mrs. Virginia Lewis; two daughters, Mrs. Linda Gail Dolan of Horn Lake, MS and Mrs. Frankie Jean Terrell of Ferriday; a step-daughter, Mrs. Linda Irvin of Memphis; a step-son Mervin Wilbanks of Memphis; five sisters, Mrs. Carrie Gilley of Mangham, LA, Mrs. Mable Wisner, Mrs. Jane Johnson and Mrs. Mollie Copeland, all of Monroe, LA; a brother, John Lewis of Mangham and 11 grandchildren.
