Austro-Hungarian-American actor. Born Karl Cesar Willy Simon; a. k. a. Carl Esmond (in the U. S.). Eichberger/Esmond appeared in over 90 film/television productions, including Romanze (1936), The Dawn Patrol (1938) and Sergeant York (1941). After a successful start in Germany and Austria during the 1930s, he fled the Nazis and then resumed his acting career (as Carl Esmond) in the U. S. In the 1950s he did primarily stage and television work, and he continued to make sporadic appearances in U. S. television until 1985.
