Secretary of the American Tract Society, died at Pleasant Valley.
Yesterday the remains of the Rev. R.S. COOK, late Secretary Of the New-York Sabbath Committee, were buried in Greenwood Cemetery. The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Dr. GANSE, at the Dutch Reformed Church, in Twenty-third-street, near Sixth-avenue.
The reverned gentleman paid a just and touching tribute to the memory of his departed friend. Mr. COOK was no common man, and very prominently connected with some of the most important enterprises of American Christianity and philanthropy. He had a large share in organizing the Colporteur system of the American Tract Society, in promoting the observance of the Lord's day in the City of New York and throughout the country, and in setting in motion the United States Christian Commission.
He did an immense amount of good to our foreign, especially the German population, whose spiritual welfare he had deeply at heart. He was a man or commanding person, strong will, indomitable energy, rare executive genius, of extensive knowledge of human nature, and burning zeal in the service of his Master. He has done a great and good work.
A considerable number of the leading ministers and Christian laymen of the City paid him their last tribute of honor. His memory will live as long as the American Tract Society and the American Sabbath, to which he devoted the best energies of his useful life.
