Mass of the Christian burial for John L. Koster of Carroll will be at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 8, 2005, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll.

Mr. Koster, 47, died Tuesday, Oct. 4, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll following a long battle with cancer.

The Rev. Timothy Schott will preside at the Mass. Lectors will be Phil and Linda Pudenz. Gift bearers will be Ashley and Brianna Blake. Eucharistic ministers will be Rosanne Nees and Donna Bachman. Servers will be Travis Koster, Amy Loughran and Kelly Loughran.

Casket bearers will be Mike Koster, Jim Koster, Ken Koster, Ron Johnson, Tom Nees and Steve Nees.

Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery at Carroll.

Visitation starts at 2:30 and a rosary will be prayed at 3 Friday afternoon at Sharp Funeral Home in Breda. St. Lawrence Parish will hold a Christian wake service at 7 Friday night at the funeral home. Visitation will continue at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

A son of Linus and Madonna (Goecke) Koster, he was born Oct. 24, 1957, at Carroll and spent his younger years in the Breda community, graduating from St. Bernard High School there in 1976.

He and Joan Nees were married Nov. 14, 1980, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Mount Carmel.

The Kosters resided in Carroll, where Mr. Koster worked for Safeway grocery store then was employed by Pepsi Cola Bottling Co. for 20 years. He worked for Koster Grain of Maple River the last two years.

He was a member, Eucharistic minister and greeter at St. Lawrence Parish and enjoyed chopping wood, spending time at the lake, fishing with his family, gardening and playing Santa Claus at Christmastime.

Survivors include his wife, Joan, of Carroll; two daughters: Chelsea Koster and Sarah Koster, both of Ames; his parents, Linus and Madonna Koster, of Breda; five brothers and sisters: Pat Johnson and her husband, Ron, of Apple Valley, Minn., Mike Koster and his wife, Judy, of Breda, Linda Pudenz and her husband, Phil, of Sioux Falls, S.D., Jim Koster and his wife, Pam, of Indianola and Ken Koster and his wife, Beth, of Columbia, Mo.; his father- and mother-in-law, Kenneth and Jeanette Nees, of Mount Carmel; brothers- and sisters-in-law: Dan and Kathy Nees of Ankeny, Tom and Rosanne Nees of Carroll, Steve and Iris Nees of Halbur, Chris and Randy Blake of Atlantic, Theresa Potthoff of Pauls Valley, Okla., Susan Nees and Scott Ainsworth of Athens, Ga., Jill and John Kolb of Ames, Joe and Monica Nees of Mount Carmel, and Mike and Kim Nees of Mount Carmel; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Mr. Koster was preceded in death by his grandparents: Clarence and Clara Goecke, and Joe and Sophie Koster.
