Baseball Hall of Fame Executive. Born in Philadelphia, Pennslyvainia, together with her husband Abe Manley, she was co-owner of the Newark Eagles Negro League Baseball Team. In 1935, she married Abe Manley and he involved her extensively in the operation of his own club, the Eagles. For eleven years, she worked to improve the conditions of the players in the entire league that advanced the civil rights movement. She displayed skill in the area of marketing, often scheduled promotions, bought the equipment, negotiated contracts and arranged better pay scales for her players. In position, her most noted success was leading the Eagles' victory in the Negro League World Series in 1946. Her influence also extended beyond baseball, being active in the black Civil Rights Movement and as a social activist. She died at age 81 in Los Angeles, California. She is the first women to be elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame when she was posthumously inducted in 2006.
