THE PLAINS -- Adda Loyse Newell, 87, formerly of Long Bottom, Pleasant Hill, Athens and The Plains, died early Sunday morning, Dec. 2, 2001, at Rock Springs Rehabilitation Center, Pomeroy.

Born Aug. 13, 1914, in Lonneyville, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late James W. and Jerushia Irene Wells Stalnaker. She attended school at Long Bottom, was formerly employed by East Elementary School and Ohio University Inn, and was a member of Athens First Christian Church.

She is survived by daughters Lois Ashcraft of Loris, S.C., Barbara (David) Lindsey of Pickerington, Carolyn (Max) Burchfield of Chapin, S.C.; a twin daughter and son, Joyce (Bob) Dailey of The Plains and Royce (Lucille) Newell of Reedsville; another son, Harold (Betty) Newell of Chester; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Guy (Evie) Stalnaker of Akron.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Blaine, in 1988; two grandchildren; sisters Evelyn Sedgwick, Edith Curtis and Gertrude Tracy; and brothers Hubert, James and William Stalnaker.

Services will be Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, Athens, with James Grooms officiating. Burial will be in Reedsville Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Athens First Christian Church, 24 W. State St.
