Born in Alt Patschkau, Kries Neisse, Schlesien, Germany the second son of Josef Wagner and Anna Thannheiser. The province of Schlesien was depopulated of Germans after the war and is now part of Poland. He never saw his parents or his home after the war.
He and his family emigrated to the USA in the mid 50's. They could not speak a word of English when they came. Somehow they managed to make it across the country settling in Santa Clara county in California. The job they had been promised by the Catholic church in Germany did not exist so he found a job working a dairy farm.
He made a very successful life for himself and his family eventually owning his own business. He died 8 years after a stroke left him incapacitated.
