Mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and 25-year veteran of AT&T and Pacific Bell, aged 96, died Wednesday, February 12, 2014 in Concord. She was married for 46 years to the late F. Michael Hanlon.

Born August 14, 1917 in Billings, Montana, she was the last surviving of 3 daughters of the late Roswell Bernard and Beatrice (Brockmeyer) Cahill. Her parents were homesteaders in Montana from 1914 to 1920, and the family returned to their home in Webster Groves, MO. when she was 3 years of age.

She graduated from Ursuline Academy in Webster Groves, MO. and attended a year of college offered by the WPA through Columbia University. She worked as a PBX operator and telephone company instructor in St. Louis during the depression and in Washington, D.C. from 1941 to 1943.

A World War II veteran, she served as a sergeant in the US Army from January, 1943 to March, 1944. She was assigned to the Pentagon on a special project with the Signal Corps.

After moving to California in 1953, she returned to the telephone company and worked as a PBX operator and later as a frameman and as a computer repair technician. She retired in 1983. A 61-year resident of the Bay Area, she was active in St. Mary Magdalen Parish in Berkeley and Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Oakland, serving on the parish hospitality committees and as a Eucharistic Minister in Oakland.

She is survived by her eleven children and their spouse; 31 grand-children; and 24 great-grand-children.

Visitation and the Rosary will be at St. Mary Magdalen Church at 2005 Berryman Street in Berkeley on Thursday, February 20, from 2:00-4:00 pm. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary Magdalen Church on Friday, February 21, at 11 am. Military Honors and burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery in San Pablo on Saturday, February 22. The family asks that memorial donations be made to the School of the Madeleine Scholarship Fund, 1225 Milvia St., Berkeley, CA 94709, in lieu of flowers.
