Harry Frank, 77, passed away on February 28, 2014, leaving the world a less interesting place with his untimely death.
He was a family man, a lover of life, a fearless adventure traveler, breadmaker, golfer, volunteer, proud grandfather, a brilliant scientist and a friend to many. His broad smile and laughter lit up a room. He will be deeply missed.
He was born on January 1, 1937, in Bad Mergentheim, Germany to Ruth and Hermann Frank.
At 18 months of age, Harry and his parents escaped Nazi Germany and settled in Beaumont, Texas. He graduated from Beaumont High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Lamar University in 1959.
On September 15, 1961, he married the love of his life, Betty Ann Richard and together they had four children. Harry spent his career at Shell Chemical Company and retired after 40 years, followed by five years at successor companies Resolution Performance Products and Hexion. His role as a researcher and process engineer took him to resin plants across the world, as well to Shell Chemical's research hubs in Holland, New Jersey and Houston's Westhollow Technology Center.
He spent the day of his death in typical Harry Frank fashion, living life to the fullest. He took his grandson Dylan to school in the morning and, since it was Go Texan Day, participated in line dancing at the school. He had lunch with his dear friend from high school, Wayne Wedgeworth, as he often did on Fridays. Harry passed away suddenly of cardiac arrest in his study that afternoon.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Betty and four children: Mark and his wife Patricia of Houston, Jeff of Tiki Island, Texas, Toby Calabrese and her husband Denis of Houston and Eric and his wife Katrina of Seattle, Washington.
Harry was a loving grandfather to four grandchildren: Marissa Frank, Dylan Frank, Grace Calabrese and Sydney Frank. He is also survived by his brother, David and wife Nell, of Beaumont, Texas.
A celebration of his life will be held at noon on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at the BlackHorse Golf Club Pavilion, 12205 Fry Road in Cypress, Texas.
