Occupation: August was a teacher at Freistadt for a time, and later taught at Trinity at 9th and Highland in Milwaukee. He wrote the tune to Hymn # 73, TLH, which was for many years the most popular hymn in the hymnbook, "Lift Up Your Heads Ye Mighty Gates". (noted in " Freistadt and the Lutheran Immigration ")
