Obituary from Post Register (Idaho Falls, ID) - 27 October 2009:
Vera Walz Brewerton, 89, of Rexburg, died at her home on October 22, 2009, with her daughter Colleen, and her hospice nurse, Bonnie, at her side.
She was born in Burton on June 22, 1920, to Conrad Ludwig and Aurelia Billeter Walz. She attended schools in Burton and Rexburg and graduated from Madison High School in 1938. She moved to Salt Lake City and attended the LDS Business College. She was the office manager at Lignell and Gill Photo Studio, where she was also a photo finisher and re-toucher.
Vera was married to Denton Young Brewerton by Elder David O. McKay, later president of the LDS church, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on January 8, 1943. Later that year, she joined her serviceman husband in Charleston, South Carolina. They also lived in New Jersey; Provo, Utah; Long Beach, California; and Boise, Idaho, before moving back to Rexburg in 1965.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in the Primary for many years and also enjoyed callings in the Relief Society and MIA.
Vera was the mother of three children. She loved to sew and worked for many years as the department head of fabrics for the J.C. Penney Co. in Rexburg.
Vera was a loving daughter and sacrificed much of her free time to help her widowed father, who was a farmer in Burton. She was a very caring and generous person who was always willing to help anyone in need.
She was raised with a love for classical music, but also loved to dance with the Big Bands at Saltair in Salt Lake City. In later years she was able to travel to Europe and Canada with her husband and also made several trips to Europe with her daughters. She enjoyed going to symphony concerts at Ricks College and loved to attend the Teton Music Festival in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
Her husband preceded her in death in August 2004.
She is survived by her three children, J. Ned (Nancy) Brewerton, Marilyn (Terry) Jarrett and Colleen Brewerton (Barry Short). She had seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
