Hall of Fame Major League Baseball Player. He played 20 seasons of Major League Baseball, all with the San Diego Padres. A left-handed hitter, he accumulated eight batting titles, a record which is tied for second most in Major League history. The right fielder was a 15-time All-Star who won seven Silver Slugger Awards and five Gold Glove Awards. He was a .338 career hitter with 3,141 career hits, was voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007 (his first year eligible), and has had his uniform number 19 retired by the Padres. He was the head baseball coach for San Diego State University at the time of his death.
