Leo Baum Services Set This Morning

Services for Leo Baum, 90 years old, retired Galena merchant, who died Sunday afternoon in his home, 2417 Murphy avenue, will be at 10 o'clock this morning in Hurlbut-Glover chapel. Rabbi Charles Latz will officiate.

Burial will be in the Jewish cemetery at Fort Scott, Kan., where Masonic rites will be conducted at 2 o'clock this afternoon.

Born March 31, 1871, in Seneca, Mr. Baum had lived in the district all his life. He operated the Baum clothing store in Galena for a number of years. He moved to Joplin two years ago.

He was a member of United Hebrew Congregation of Joplin and Lodge No. 194, A. F. & A. M., of Galena.

Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Rose Baum of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. Stella Baum of Colorado Springs, Colo.

Galena, Kan., July 29. — Funeral services for Mrs. Gertrude Baum, 84 years old, pioneer resident of Galena who died at her home, 317 East Third street, early Tuesday morning following a three years' illness, were held at the residence at 9:30 o'clock this morning. Scherl Levy of Joplin conducted the services. Burial was in the Fort Scott cemetery this afternoon.

Galena, Kan., March 17.—Mrs. Hattie Baum, 79 years old, Galena resident for thirty-one years, died at 7;30 o'clock tonight at her home, Tenth street and Galena avenue. Her husband, the late Moses Baum, died here twelve years ago.

Surviving are two sons, L. R. Baum and William Baum of Galena; two sisters, Mrs. L. W. Rosenfeld of Kokomo, Ind., and Mrs. F. Becker of Philadelphia, Pa., and one brother, Leon Tree of Los Angeles, Calif.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

GALENA, KAN., Dec. 3.—Funeral services for Moses Baum, pioneer resident of Galena, who died at St. John's hospital in Joplin Thursday morning, will be held from the residence, 1000 Galena avenue, at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon, conducted by Rabbi Shinedling of Joplin. Burial will be in Mount Hope cemetery, with the Galena Masonic order in charge.

Moses Baum, 75, Succumbs at St.
John's Hospital After an Extended
Illness.


Moses Baum, 75 years old, well known Galena, Kan., merchant and citizen there for thirty years, died at 7:45 o'clock this morning in John's hospital. He recently underwent two operations. He had been in ill, health several years.

Mr. Baum was born in Bosem, Germany, coming to America when a young man. In the early nineties, he and his family moved to Galena, where he had since resided. A greater part of the time during his residence there, Mr. Baum had been engaged in the mercantile business. For a number of years he was associated with William Aach in the Chicago dry goods store, later known as the William Aach and Company store.

Besides his wife and two sons, William and Louis R. Baum, all of Galena, three sisters, Mrs. Tillie Baum of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Gertrude Falker of Chicago, and Mrs. Eisenkranar of Germany, survive.

He was a brother of the late Louis Baum of Chicago, formerly a Galena merchant.

Funeral arrangements have not been completed. The body was taken to Galena yesterday.

Near Sarcoxie.


Sarcoxie, Mo., Nov. 30.—Mrs. Sadie McMichael, 72-year-old Galena, Kan., woman, was instantly killed about 11 o'clock this morning when a motor car in which she was riding overturned on a curve on highway 37 about a mile south of Sarcoxie.

Mrs. McMichael was being returned from Reeds Springs to her home by L. V. Seaton, 35 years old, a family friend, who escaped injury.

According to reports, Seaton's car skidded in loose gravel on the highway shoulder and rolled over three times. Mrs. McMichael was pinned under the car and it was about 10 minutes before anyone arrived to assist Seaton in removing
the body.

Dr. Leroy Simmons said death apparently was instantaneous and was caused from a fracture of the neck.

The accident occurred on the Jasper-Newton county line, on the Jasper county side.

A former resident of Chillicothe and Day, Mo., Mrs. McMichael had made her home in Galena about nine years, living at Sixth street and Galena avenue. A brother, Leo Baum, operates a dry goods store in Galena. He was notified and arrived here shortly after noon.

Also surviving are two sons, Carl Hirsch of Kansas City and Leo Hirsch of Chicago, and three sisters, Miss Lena Baum and Mrs. Rose Baum, both of Los Angeles, and Mrs. Stella Baum of Colorado Springs.

Woman, 72, Killed Instantly When
Motor Car Overturns on Curve
Near Sarcoxie.


Galena, Kan, Nov. 30.—The body of Mrs. Sadie McMichael, 72-year-old Galena woman, who was killed instantly about 11 o'clock this morning when a motor car in which she was riding overturned on a curve on highway 87 about a mile south of Sarcoxie, was brought to the Allison funeral home here tonight. Funeral arrangements are indefinite pending news from relatives away from here.

Mrs. McMichael was being returned from Reed Spring to her home by L. V. Beaton, 35 years old, a family friend, who escaped injury. According to reports, Beaton's car skidded in loose gravel on the highway shoulder and rolled over three times. Mrs. McMichael was pinned under the car and it was about 10 minutes before anyone arrived to assist Seaton in removing the body.

Dr. Leroy Simmons of Sarcoxie said death apparently was instantaneous and was caused from a fracture of the neck. No inquest will be held.

Galena, Kan., July 29. — Funeral services for Mrs. Gertrude Baum, 84 years old, pioneer resident of Galena who died at her home, 317 East Third street, early Tuesday morning following a three years' illness, were held at the residence at 9:30 o'clock this morning. Scherl Levy of Joplin conducted the services. Burial was in the Fort Scott cemetery this afternoon.

Galena, Kan., March 17.—Mrs. Hattie Baum, 79 years old, Galena resident for thirty-one years, died at 7;30 o'clock tonight at her home, Tenth street and Galena avenue. Her husband, the late Moses Baum, died here twelve years ago.

Surviving are two sons, L. R. Baum and William Baum of Galena; two sisters, Mrs. L. W. Rosenfeld of Kokomo, Ind., and Mrs. F. Becker of Philadelphia, Pa., and one brother, Leon Tree of Los Angeles, Calif.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

GALENA, KAN., Dec. 3.—Funeral services for Moses Baum, pioneer resident of Galena, who died at St. John's hospital in Joplin Thursday morning, will be held from the residence, 1000 Galena avenue, at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon, conducted by Rabbi Shinedling of Joplin. Burial will be in Mount Hope cemetery, with the Galena Masonic order in charge.

Moses Baum, 75, Succumbs at St.
John's Hospital After an Extended
Illness.


Moses Baum, 75 years old, well known Galena, Kan., merchant and citizen there for thirty years, died at 7:45 o'clock this morning in John's hospital. He recently underwent two operations. He had been in ill, health several years.

Mr. Baum was born in Bosem, Germany, coming to America when a young man. In the early nineties, he and his family moved to Galena, where he had since resided. A greater part of the time during his residence there, Mr. Baum had been engaged in the mercantile business. For a number of years he was associated with William Aach in the Chicago dry goods store, later known as the William Aach and Company store.

Besides his wife and two sons, William and Louis R. Baum, all of Galena, three sisters, Mrs. Tillie Baum of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Gertrude Falker of Chicago, and Mrs. Eisenkranar of Germany, survive.

He was a brother of the late Louis Baum of Chicago, formerly a Galena merchant.

Funeral arrangements have not been completed. The body was taken to Galena yesterday.

Killed in Crash
Near Sarcoxie.


Sarcoxie, Mo., Nov. 30.—Mrs. Sadie McMichael, 72-year-old Galena, Kan., woman, was instantly killed about 11 o'clock this morning when a motor car in which she was riding overturned on a curve on highway 37 about a mile south of Sarcoxie.

Mrs. McMichael was being returned from Reeds Springs to her home by L. V. Seaton, 35 years old, a family friend, who escaped injury.

According to reports, Seaton's car skidded in loose gravel on the highway shoulder and rolled over three times. Mrs. McMichael was pinned under the car and it was about 10 minutes before anyone arrived to assist Seaton in removing
the body.

Dr. Leroy Simmons said death apparently was instantaneous and was caused from a fracture of the neck.

The accident occurred on the Jasper-Newton county line, on the Jasper county side.

A former resident of Chillicothe and Day, Mo., Mrs. McMichael had made her home in Galena about nine years, living at Sixth street and Galena avenue. A brother, Leo Baum, operates a dry goods store in Galena. He was notified and arrived here shortly after noon.

Also surviving are two sons, Carl Hirsch of Kansas City and Leo Hirsch of Chicago, and three sisters, Miss Lena Baum and Mrs. Rose Baum, both of Los Angeles, and Mrs. Stella Baum of Colorado Springs.

Funeral arrangements are indefinite pending news from relatives away from here.

Mrs. McMichael was being returned from Reed Spring to her home by L. V. Beaton, 35 years old, a family friend, who escaped injury. According to reports, Beaton's car skidded in loose gravel on the highway shoulder and rolled over three times. Mrs. McMichael was pinned under the car and it was about 10 minutes before anyone arrived to assist Seaton in removing the body.
