George Meier - Obit
George Meier was born in Dreispitz, Russia, May 24th 1856, and died Sunday evening June 16, at 8:oo o’clock, at the age of 84 years and 22 day.
He was united in marriage to Anna Beisel in 1879 at the age of 23. In 1881 he immigrated to America and made his home at Lehigh, Kansas for 13 years. To this union three sons and two daughters were born.
In 1892, he moved to Oklahoma and took up a homestead southwest of Okeene, where he lived until the fall of 1920, when he moved to Lodi, California.
Mr. Meier’s first wife died in 1894 near Okeene and the next year he married Katie Deil. To this union three sons and five daughters were born. His second wife died in 1934 in Lodi, California, and the next year he came back to Okeene to live with his children the remainder of this life.
About 55 years ago while Mr. Meier lived at Lehigh, Kansas, he became a member of the SDA church and he served his Lord unto his end. He was elder and deacon of the Okeene Church for many years. God blessed him financially and he was a good supporter of the mission work both in tithes and offerings. He was a lover of the Bible and prayed daily to God.
The last four years of this life he stayed at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lydia George, who nursed him during those long years of his sickness and suffering. He suffered with dropsy for over ten years.
He leaves to mourn from his first wife, Jacob Meier, Dave Meier, Lydia George, Charley Meier of Okeene and Leah Meier of Lodi, California; and from his second wife, Sam Meier of Eugene, Oregon, Solomon Meier of Lodi California, Mrs. Rachel Uphoff, Mrs. Priscilla Jenkins, Mrs. Lucille Guffe and Daniel Meier, all of San Francisco, California, and Mrs. Hanna Howard of San Jose, California, 26 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
The funeral services were conducted by Elder J. McConaughey of Oklahoma City and Elder C. D. Hein or Okeene, Saturday, June 22 at 2:15pm in the high school auditorium in Okeene. Burial was at Roselawn Cemetery. The Rice Funeral Home was in charge.
