As a pitcher, he led the National League in strikeouts, 1897 to 1898 and led both leagues in 1905, batting with a .377 average, 219 hits and 121 runs-batted-in. In 16 seasons, he pitched in 140 games with 61 wins, 56 lost, 584 strikeouts and a 3.76 earned run average. He had a career .303 batting average with 1723 hits, 52 homeruns, 799 RBIs in 1528 games played.
