Thomas Alexander Murphy was born in 1887 in Victoria, Cumberland County, Nova Scotia, the son of David Nathaniel Murphy and Eliza Ross. He married Mary Edna Mosher in 1915 in Pugwash, Cumberland County.

Children:
1- Mary Elizabeth Murphy (1921-2008) married 1945 Whitney Randolph McCully (1925-1996).
2- Thomas Joseph Murphy (1922-1922).
3- Barbara Ann Murphy (1924-2018) married Donald Balfour Gordon (1921-1996).
4- Alfred David Murphy (1930-1998) married Mildred Richardson.
5- Eileen Murphy.

Mary Edna died in 1932. Thomas died in 1974 in Streets Ridge, Cumberland County.
