J. W. Maxwell, Retired Banker, Passes At Home
J. Willard Maxwell, 59, a retired Seattle bank executive and civic leader, died of a stroke Thursday at his home, 6$$1 E. 57th St.
Mr. Maxwell who was born in Lincoln, Neb., and lived here since he was an infant, was a Vice President of Pacific National Bank when he retired last December. He was a graduate of Broadway High School and, soon after his graduation from the University of Washington, started his banking career in the National City Bank, which was founded by his father, J. W. Maxwell Sr.
HE WAS A TRUSTEE of the Seattle Historical Society, a member of the Seattle Transit System Commission, a former member of the board of trustees and treasurer of Seattle and King County Municipal, League.
He was treasurer of the United Good Neighbors, 1956-1957; president of the Washington State Intetnational Trade Fair in 1958; a past president of the Broadway Alumni Association, and a member and former treasurer of the Rainier Club.
He also was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity and the Seattle Bond Club.
Survivors: Wife, Adelle T.; one daughter, Mrs. William H. Gates Jr., Seattle,and two grandchildren.
Services: Private, directed by Butterworth's.
