New Market Loses Civil War Veteran
Reuben B. Will dies of infirmities of old age -- as member of Rice's Battery was severely wounded at Gettysburg -- funeral tomorrow afternoon
New Market, Va., April 20 -- Reuben B. Will, a highly respected citizen of this place, died here this morning at 11 o'clock, his death being due to the infirmaries of old age. He had been in declining health for several years.
Mr. Will was born May 5, 1830, near Mt. Jackson and had been a resident of Shenandoah county all his life. He served faithfully throughout the Civil War as a member of Rice's Battery and was severely wounded at Gettysburg. His wife, who was Miss Mary Jane Long of Pennsylvania, died in May, 1907, after a married life of 52 years, the couple having been married October 16, 1855.
Originally Mr. Will was a communicant of the Reformed Church. Later in life, when too distant from a Reformed house of worship to attend services regularly, he united with Emmanuel Lutheran church of New Market. He was a faithful church man, and was quite a reader.
The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock from Emmanuel Lutheran church. The services will be conducted by Rev. Finch, the pastor, assisted by Rev. Paul Stirewalt.
