Gerriet (Gary) von Waaden passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on October 24, 2014, of Parkinsons complications at the age of 76. He was born in Oldenburg, Germany, the only son of Heinrich and Hanny von Waaden of Jaderberg, Germany. Sister Ursula passed in early childhood. He is survived by his loving wife, Geri Rodericks von Waaden whom he met in San Jose and was introduced by his cousin. He fulfilled his biggest dream in 1957 by coming to America. 

Father of son Gary von Waaden (Sandy), daughters, Tanya Vander Weide, Kara Floriani and Heidi Greenacre; Grandfather of ten; Great Grandfather to one.

Gary returned to Germany in 1962 with his wife Geri and nine-month-old baby son for his parents 25th wedding anniversary celebration. He decided to stay and attend Electrical Mechanical Trade school in Germany, graduating in 1966. Two daughters, Tanya and Kara, were born in Germany before returning to San Jose, California in 1966. He worked twenty years for American Bakeries – Langendorf, first as a maintenance electrician from 1966 to 1968, First Assistant Chief Engineer from 1968 to 1981 and Chief Engineer for five years. He also work at Kilpatricks Bakeries in Oakland where he retired at the age of 60. 

Gary enjoyed spending time with his family and frequently traveled to Germany to visit his parents and relatives. Camping, boating and water skiing at Whiskeytown Lake were annual summer events. He also enjoyed gardening and planting his annual potted flowers.

Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, November 7, 2014 at 11:00am at All Saints University parish in Turlock where he was a 4th degree charter member of the Knights of Columbus. Burial will take place at St. John the Baptist Church Cemetery, Milpitas at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the All Saints Building Fund or the Parkinsons Institute of Sunnyvale, California.
