Hall of Fame Negro League Baseball Player. He played in the Negro Leagues from 1909 to 1926, served in World War I during his playing time. He played catcher, and was known as a powerful left-handed batter, known for his long home run hits. He played for the Philadelphia Giants, New York Lincoln Giants, Brooklyn Royal Giants and Hilldale Daisies. He had a .406 lifetime batting average. Elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame by Special Committee in 2006, as a Player.
