Major League Baseball Hall of Fame Team Owner. He was the owner of the Cuban Stars of the Eastern Colored League, and the New York Cubans of the Negro National League. In 1924, he helped to organize the first Negro League World Series. When the Negro leagues were disbanded, he became a scout for the New York and San Francisco Giants for 25 years. He was instrumental in the signings of such players as Orlando Cepeda, Juan Marichal, Felipe, Jesus and Matty Alou. In 1971 he became a member on the Baseball Hall of Fame's Committee on Negro Leagues. In 2006, he was elected to the Hall of Fame as a Pioneer/Executive.
