David Braffett (name listed in some records as David Braffet, David Braffit, and David Braffitt) was born about 1841 in Darke County, Ohio, the 12th and last child of Silas Braffett and Mary Woods.

He was living in 1850 (age 9) and 1860 (age 19) in Richland, Grant County, Indiana.

He served as a private in Company I, 12th Indiana Infantry. He died in 1861 at Camp Wallace near Evansville, Indiana due to the measles, and his body was returned to Grant County.
