LATIMER - Dorothy M. Parks, 89, of Hampton, died Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011, at the Franklin General Hospital Nursing Facility in Hampton.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday Dec. 6, 2011, at Zion Reformed Church, north of Latimer, with Pastor Art Zewert officiating. Inurnment will take place in the Zion Reformed Church Cemetery.

Friends may call on the family one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Services are under the direction of the Dugger Funeral Home, 320 East St., Latimer.

Dorothy Marie, the daughter of Johan and Frieda Grulke Oltmann, was born Jan. 27, 1922, on the family farm northeast of Latimer. Dorothy grew up in rural Latimer where she attended country school. After her brother entered the service, Dorothy began working on the farm.

Dorothy was united in marriage to Edward Parks on Oct. 25, 1945, at the Zion Reformed Church parsonage. The couple made their home in rural Latimer and Hampton, where they farmed and raised their family. In 1988, Dorothy and Ed retired and moved into Hampton. Ed passed away in 1997. Dorothy enjoyed helping Ed farm, and was very fond of her chickens. After Ed's death, Dorothy continued to live in Hampton until just recently entering the Franklin General Hospital Nursing Facility.

Dorothy was a life-long member of the Zion Reformed Church.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Lois Pals and husband, Jerry of Mason City; Larry and wife, Anita of Latimer; Roy and wife, Sandy, of Thornton; Rex of Hampton; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Mildred Schaefer of Latimer, and numerous nieces, nephew, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ed; infant son, James; great-grandson, Jared Parks, and brother, Bill.
