John H. Carson was born about 1822 in Rutherford County, North Carolina.
He and Nancy Bird (1823- ) married 9 Jul 1844 in Macon County, North Carolina. Nancy (born Burke County) was the daughter of Lemuel Bird (1799- ) and granddaughter of Jonathan Bird (1764-1848) and Angelica Banning (1775-1863).
John was a farmer in Tennessee Valley, Macon County where he and Nancy and their children lived.
Children (born Macon County):
1- Margaret Lucile Carson (1846-1935) married William Gray Huskins (1842-1890).
2- Caroline E. Carson (1849-1934) married 1878 James Perkins (1844-1912).
3- William Stephen Carson (1851- ).
4- Jane Arkansas Carson (1854- ) married 1873 James Fox.
5- George O. Carson (1856- ) married 1880 Amanda Jane Hale (1859-1916).
6- Albey Carson (1860- ).
John enlisted 25 Jun 1861 at age 28 and served as a farrier in Company K 1st North Carolina Cavalry CSA. He died of disease 16 Apr 1862 in Lynchburg, Virginia. His surviving family then moved to Tennessee where daughter Margaret married William Graham Huskins about 1863. Nancy married Charles Clarke (1840- ) 6 Dec 1868 in Cambell County, Tennessee.
Charles was from Ohio. By 1870, John's surviving family, except for Margaret, was living in Barboursville, Cabell County, West Virginia where Charles worked for the railroad. For the 1870 census, another child (Allice Carson born 1867 Tennessee) was recorded in the family of Charles Clark and Nancy Clark and Nancy's 5 younger children from her marriage to John H. Carson. Allice was possibly a daughter of Caroline born prior to her 1878 marriage to James Perkins. An Alice Whitty (born 1867 Tennessee), with parents John Carson and Carolina Carson and a residence of Louisville, Kentucky, was recorded in a 1915 Indiana marriage registration to William Hourigan.
