Emory Camet Hash was born in 1870 in Wilson Creek, Grayson County, Virginia, the eldest son of Abram Hash and his 2nd wife Sarah Rebekah McGrady. In some family records, his name is Emory Columbus Hash. He married Nellie Cox 14 Apr 1894 in Grayson County, and they had 7 children.

Emory was a farmer, postmaster, and painter. He was appointed postmaster 1 Apr 1903 for Lovelace, Grayson County. He was working as a painter in 1902-1903 (Grayson County), 1906 (Lewistown, Montana), and 1911 (Leavenworth, Kansas). He died in 1911 in Leavenworth at the age of 41 in a fall from a 3rd story window.

Even though the 1911 newspaper story states that Emory was a widower, Nellie lived another 45 years after Emory's death.
