Robert E. Borgerding, a well known and highly respected farmer residing two miles north of Burkettsville, passed on Tuesday following an illness of nearly o year of dropsy. He died well fortified with the last sacraments of the Catholic Church, of which he had been a lifelong and consistent member.

Mr. Borgerding was born at St. Henry June 6, 1865 and had attained the age of 61 years, 8 months and 2 days. For the past 30 years, he had been a progressive and successful farmer near Burkettsville and had many friends who were grieved to hear of his death.

He was united in marriage to Miss Bernadine Westerheide at St. Henry Aug 26, 1892, and besides his widow, is survived by: ten children, namely, Ed of St. Henry, Mrs. John Werling, Mrs. Ed Kemper, Joseph and Anna of Dayton, Mrs. Aloys Broerman of Burkettsville, Florentina, Ernest, Ralph and Anthony at home; one brother, John Borgerding of Burkettsville; three sisters, Mrs. Jos. Fink of Greenville, Mrs. John Rammel and Mrs. Joseph Winhoven of Burkettsville; and 14 grandchildren.

The deceased was a kind and provident husband and father, a good neighbor and a member of the St. Joseph’s Men’s Society of Burkettsville parish.

Funeral was held Saturday morning at St. Bernard’s church, Burkettsville, with Rev. D.A.W. Schweitzer officiating at Requiem High Mass, and was one of the largest funerals ever held at that place. Burial was at St. Bernard’s Cemetery.

Robert was the son of John Gerhard and Clara Schlottman (Slotman) Lange Borgerding.

On Aug 26, 1891, in St. Henry, he married Bernadina Westerheide. They lived in Celina, Ohio and had two children, John Edward (June 28, 1892) and Alvina Clara (June 13, 1895). Robert worked as a glass blower in a glass factory and when it moved to Muncie, Indiana, the family moved also. Here they had another daughter, Elnora (Nora) Emma (Aug 18, 1896).

After a few years, they moved back to Ohio near Burkettsville, where Robert became a farmer. They had seven more children, Monica Eloise (Aug 22, 1898), Anna M. (Jan 9, 1901), Joseph F (1904), Florentina Catharina (Oct 23, 1905), Ralphus Marcus L (May 31, 1908), Ernest Lawrence (Aug 19, 1910) and Anthony B. (Apr 1, 1913).

In about 1919, Robert suffered a stroke and was paralyzed for the rest of his life until his death on Feb 8, 1927 at age 61.
