Joseph Braffet (sometimes Joseph Braffett) was born in 1821, the son of William Wiban Braffett and Mary Vangelder. He was a blacksmith and tax collector.

Joseph married Hulda Hawks, and they may have had 4 children:
1- George W. Braffet (c.1857- ).
2- Sarah E. Braffet (1860-1878).
3- Jennie E. Braffet (1863- ).
4- Frank W. Braffet (1880-1880).

Joseph was probably buried in the same cemetery where his widow Huldah would be buried 31 years later.
