Revolutionary War Veteran. He served the United States as a soldier during the Revolutionary War. He participated in several engagements and fought in the Battles at Boston, Ticonderoga, Stillwater, Saratoga, Valley Forge, Monmouth, and Newport. A native of Massachusetts he emigrated to Ohio and settled in Hamilton County eventually setting up his homestead Glendale. He married to Susan Rousseau on August 7, 1791 and they had nine children. His daughter married into the famous Kemper family and he befriended Reverend James Kemper and his sons. He died from the effects of old age when he was 82 years old. He was initially buried in the Old Walnut Hills Cemetery until his grave was removed to Spring Grove on January 26, 1858. He was the son of Edward and Eunice Chapin.
