Son of Benjamin Cleveland Sr. and Ann Clark, husband of Mary Elderkin, whom he married on February 20, 1754 in Windham, Connecticut, and father of Ann (1755), Roxalena or Rocksalona (1757), Martin Luther (1759), Mary (1761), Olive (1763), Enoch (1765), Sinday (1767), Eunice (1770), Jerusha (1773), Sarah (1775), Nathan (1777), and Aron (1780) Cleveland.

Husband of Sarah Hibbard, whom he married on March 25, 1784 in Scotland, Connecticut.

Deacon Benjamin Cleveland, came from New England, Windham, soon after the expulsion of the Acadians, 1755, believed to have emigrated with the Loyalists, 1761-4, to that part of Horton, now called Wolfville, Nova Scotia, where he dwelt the remainder of his life. He was a farmer and cabinet maker; his homestead the farm afterward owned and occupied by his son Martin Luther Cleveland. He was prominent in the Baptist Church in which he had for many years held the office of deacon. He was the author of a hymn book. His wife, Mary Elderkin, died in 1783. He returned to Connecticut to marry his second wife and is buried at Horton with his two wives.
