Nathaniel Henney (Nat Henny) was born in 1849 in Nova Scotia, the 5th child of Isaac Mansfield Henney and Jane Ryan. He was living in Pugwash, Cumberland County, Nova Scotia for the 1871 census.

He married Elizabeth Jane McPherson in 1873 in Amherst, Cumberland County, Nova Scotia, and they had 7 children. The family was living in Victoria Cross Road, Cumberland County for the 1881 census.

Children:
1- Isaac Alexander Henney (1874-1876).
2- Kester Henney (1876-1938).
3- May Belle Henney Black (1878-1936).
4- Ada Henney (1883-1886).
5- John W. Henney (1885- ).
6- Ruth Izola Henney Barron (1887-1955).
7- Ethelinda Henney (1890-1899).

For the 1900 census, the family was living in Thomasville, Pitkin County, Colorado.

The family moved to Harney Valley, Oregon about 1906. Nathaniel was appointed Postmaster in Harney County for the Kenney District in 1908 and the Loma District in 1911. Nathaniel and Elizabeth were living in 1910 in Lake, Harney County where the census indicates that Elizabeth had 7 children with 4 still living.

Elizabeth died in 1917 in Burns, Harney County. For the 1920 census, Nathaniel was listed as widowed and living in Burns with his daughter Ruth Barron and son Kester Henney.

Nathaniel died in 1921 in Payette, Idaho. The informant for his death was his daughter Ruth. He was buried in Payette, possibly in Riverside Cemetery. The Riverside Cemetery office has no record of a Nathaniel Henney burial, but they do have a record of a Nat Hermey burial (1921, Section 1, Row 10, Space 14).

NATHANEEL HENNEY

Two sons and two daughters survive him. His wife having died at Burns, Oregon, several years ago.

He was a member of Hesperia Lodge No 120, A. F. & A. M., of Fruita, Colorado, and helped to institute three Masonic Lodges in his earlier days.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. under the auspices of Washoe Lodge No. 28, A. F. & A. M. from Lauer's Undertaking Parlors, Jun. 28, 1921.
