Paul F. Menking, 88 years, of Arlington, NE passed away Saturday, October 7, 2017 at Dunklau Gardens in Fremont, NE.
Paul was born February 26, 1929 in Arlington, NE to Lawrence and Pauline (Kruger) Menking. He grew up in Arlington and graduated from Arlington High School in 1947. Paul was a pitcher for the Chicago Cubs from 1946 to 1952. On January 29, 1950, Paul married Norma Thomas in Arlington. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from January 29, 1952 to January 28, 1954. After serving in the military, Paul returned to the Chicago Cubs. In 1956, he began working for Northern Natural Gas Company in Hooper, NE, retiring in 1984.
Paul was a member of the Arlington Community Church and life member of the American Legion Post 71 in Arlington. He enjoyed coaching Little League and American Legion Baseball.
Paul is survived by wife, Norma; daughter, Kathy (Dan) Molle of Fremont; sons, Bill (Linda) Menking and Ed Menking all of Arlington; and 5 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Richard, Floyd, Calvin, and Wilbur.
Memorial Service will be 1 PM, Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Pastor Shirley Schmidt will officiate. Memorial visitation will be Tuesday from 5 PM to 8 PM with family receiving friends from 6 PM to 8 PM at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Private burial will be at the Arlington Cemetery in Arlington, NE with military honors conducted by V.F.W. Post #8332 and American Legion Post #71 of Arlington.
Memorials may be directed to the Paul Menking Scholarship through the Arlington Education Foundation and to the Arlington American Legion Baseball.
