Blackburn, Helena M., age 90 of West Carrollton, passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at the Kingston of Miamisburg. She was born on May 25, 1927 in Marysville, KS, the daughter of the late August H. & Mary E. (Wassenberg) Dwerlkotte. Mrs. Blackburn was a Contract Negotiator & Administrator for the U.S. Government with over 32 years of service. A member of St. Henry Catholic Church, West Carrollton Historical Society, Aviation Hall of Fame, Dayton Art Institute, NAIM Club, Seaplane Center, Schuster Center and the Dayton Catholics Women’s Club. Mrs. Blackburn was a recipient of the Meritorious Civil Service Award, bestowed upon her by Defenses Logistics Agency (this is the highest Civilian Award given to a Federal Government Employee). Preceded in death by her husband Earl Blackburn in 1987, 3 brothers Emil, Sylves & Gregory Dwerlkotte, 2 sisters Clara Pierce & Ida Lachowsky. She is survived by her 3 loving daughters Sylvia Marshall and husband Chuck, Jean Andrews and husband David, Sarah Kiger and husband Jim, 6 grandchildren Denzil Chad Ritchie and wife Sara, Angela Dugger, Stephanie Scott and wife Vanessa, Stephen Marshall and wife Andrea, Tyler Kiger and Christopher Andrews, 7 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 16, 2018 at Our Lady of Good Hope Catholic Church with Father Jim Romanello, Celebrant. Burial will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday at the SWART FUNERAL HOME, West Carrollton. If so desired memorial contributions may be made to the With God’s Grace Food Pantry or to Hospice of Dayton in Helena’s memory.
