John Rudolf was born in 1881 in Leichtling, Saratov, Russia. He was the son of Peter Rudolf, who was born there in 1850. John had three brothers, Peter, Godfrey and George, who changed the spelling of his name to "Rudolph." John's brother, George is also buried in Mt. Calvary. Peter and Godfrey remained in South America.
John came to North America before George and he didn't bring his wife, at that time. He was married to Katherine "Katie" Bellinder, who was from Garastina, Russia. After John was well established, he brought his wife and her parents to Kansas. The parents didn't like it in Kansas and went back to Russia.
There was a story that John had a wreck on his motorcycle and lost a leg. Being a carpenter, he created his own false leg and went on in life.
John and Katie adopted two girls. One of them was Marie, who died in childhood.
