Obituary for Mr. Philip James Clark III
Philip James Clark died peacefully on September 14, 2018. He was living in Nashville, Tennessee with his children. He is survived by his son, Philip N. Clark (Kimberly), his daughter, Lyn Clark McRainey, and brothers Jerry Clark and Jackie Clark (Harriet). A special acknowledgement goes to Philip’s best friend, Mike Givens, who stood faithfully by his friend with a vanilla milkshake at the ready. Philip’s grandchildren are Hannah Clark, Hayes Roberts (Amy), Walter Roberts (Kelly), and Delaney Roberts. Philip is predeceased by his parents, Philip J. Clark, Jr. and Winnie C. Clark, his brother Cleve Clark, and his daughter, Kelly Clark Stanland.
Philip was born in Albany, Georgia on 10-3-1931 and graduated from Albany High School in 1950. He started his baseball career in 1951 with the Albany Cardinals. He was in the Navy during the Korean War and then played for the St. Louis Cardinals in 1958-59. He ended his professional baseball career with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1960 and returned to Albany, where he was a coach, a teacher, and an assistant principal from 1960 through 1988. He is remembered by many as “Coach,” and over the years, he was loved by many students who went to public schools in Dougherty County.
Visitation with the family will take place on Friday, September 21 from 5:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at KimbrelI-Stern Funeral Home at 1503 Dawson Road, Albany, Georgia, 31707. Coach Clark's funeral will take place on Saturday, September 22, at 11:00 a.m. at Kimbrell-Stern with burial to follow at Crown Hill Cemetery at 1907 Dawson Road, Albany, 31707.
