Johanna L. Maas, age 86, resident of Sandy Pond for the last 60 years, passed away Friday at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse. Johanna was born January 26, 1933 in McMechen, WV, the daughter of Amos and Gertrude Vogelpohl Kettlewell. She graduated from James Wood High School in 1951 in Winchester, VA and she attended Strayer University in Virginia. Johanna married Richard J. Maas on September 22, 1953 and he passed away April 10, 2009. She was a member of Christ Our Light Catholic Church in Pulaski.

Surviving are, two sons, Gerald Maas (companion Kim Lang) of Tampa, FL and Daniel (Becky) Maas of Sandy Pond, two daughters, Brenda Akkoul (companion James Norden) of Lacona and Pamela Maas of Sandy Pond, one stepdaughter, Kathleen Stickane of Ithaca, three grandchildren, Alyssa Akkoul, Christopher Akkoul and Cory Maas and two great-grandchildren, Kadence Akkoul and Christopher (Bubba) Akkoul. Johanna was predeceased by five sisters and two brothers.



Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, June 12th at Christ Our Light Catholic Church, 23 Niagara Street, Pulaski with burial in Pulaski Cemetery. Calling hours will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. prior to the service at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, 52 Park Street, Pulaski.



Donations in Johanna’s memory may be made to the Sandy Creek Fire Department, 6026 S. Main Street, Sandy Creek, NY 13145.
