Charles Herbst of the Town of Eisenstein passed away at his home last Thursday at the age of 80. Mr. Herbst was a well known pioneer of this area coming to Park Falls at the age of 16 and residing here since then. The funeral procession from St. Anthony's Church last Saturday was filled with over a hundred cars of the mourners, which showed the great respect of this region for one of its older citizens. Charles was born on August 31, 1869, in Winterberg, Austria. He received his early schooling in Austria, Oshkosh, and Park Falls. He married Anna Hilgart on Sept. 5, 1898, in Fifield and has been employed in the lumber mills in northern Wisconsin and the paper mill in Park Falls since his residence in Wisconsin. Surviving relatives are his wife, three sons, two daughters, and four siblings. One sister, Mrs. Barbara Koebl, lives here and three sisters reside in Austria. Surviving children are Charles Herbst of Fifield, Mrs. Agnes Liebelt, Mr. Geo. Leitl, Paul Herbst and Alfred Herbst, all of Park Falls. he is also survived by 5 grandchildren. Burial was in Nola Cemetery.
