He served congregations in Milwaukee, Wisconsin 1891-1894; Albert Lea, Minnesota 1894-1901; Grand Meadow, Minnesota 1901-1907; Mandan, North Dakota 1907-1914. He was a member of the English Hymnal Committee 1894-1898 and 1902-1912, the Board of Publication 1904-1905, which produced the "Church and Sunday School Hymnal" and "Lutheran Hymnary". He was the editor of "Christian Youth" 1898-1899 and the "Lutheran Almanac" 1905, translated N.J.J. Laache's "Catechism"into English in 1894 and translated N.F.S. Grundtvig's hymn, "Guds Ord det er vort Arvergods" into English as "God's Word is Our Great Heritage".
