Actress. She was best known to television viewers as the "soft spoken" 'Georgette Franklin Baxter' on the 1970s CBS sitcom "The Mary Tyler Moore Show." Born Georgia Bright Engel, she earned a degree at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and after college, turned to acting. She started on the theatrical stage and in 1971, made her "big screen" debut in the film "Taking Off." Later she was discovered by Mary Tyler Moore and Grant Tinker and received a role on the television sitcom "The Mary Tyler Moore Show." She appeared on the show from 1972 to 1977 and received two Emmy Award nominations for her role as 'Georgette Franklin Baxter,' the wife of newscaster 'Ted Baxter.' Besides "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," she also appeared on such television series as "Rhoda," "The Betty White Show," "The Love Boat," "Fantasy Island," "Coach," "Everybody Loves Raymond," and "Hot in Cleveland." She earned an additional three Emmy Award nominations for her performances on "Everybody Loves Raymond." Her other film appearances included "The Outside Man" (1972), "Signs of Life" (1989), "The Sweetest Thing" (2002), and "Grown Ups 2" (2013). She also did voice work on various animated films during her career.
