Actor. He was best known to television viewers as Cliff Barnes, the oil tycoon who was repeatedly bested by J.R. Ewing on the long-running CBS primetime soap opera "Dallas" from 1978 to 1991. After attending both the University of Indiana and the University of the Pacific, he started acting on the theatrical stage on and off-Broadway. He made his television debut in 1962 on the television series "Naked City." Besides "Dallas," he went on to appear in such television series as "The Defenders," "The Secret Storm," "Kojak," "Starsky and Hutch," "The Love Boat," "Murder, She Wrote," "Diagnosis Murder," and "Crossing Jordan." He not only appeared as Cliff Barnes on the original "Dallas" series, but also on the 1996 telefilm and the TNT reboot of the series from 2012 to 2014. In 1968, he made his movie debut in the film "Pretty Poison." He also appeared in such films as "The Seven-Ups" (1973), "Network" (1976), "The Lincoln Conspiracy" (1977), "F.I.S.T." (1978), "Corporate Affairs" (1990), and "Beretta's Island" (1993).
