Born Carole Ann Jones, she began her career as a child model, appearing on the cover of "Life" magazine at the age of 15, before starring in the Disney film "The Light in the Forest." In 1958, she starred in the Broadway play "Blue Denim" and its subsequent film adaptation of the same name, playing a 15-year-old girl seeking an illegal abortion. The role earned her a Golden Globe Award nomination for Most Promising Newcomer of 1959. Other stage performances include "The Potting Shed" in 1957 and "Absurd Person Singular" in 1974. Lynley would go on to star in a wide array of films, including "Return to Peyton Place," "Under the Yum Yum Tree," "Bunny Lake Is Missing," "The Pleasure Seekers," "The Cardinal" and "The Poseidon Adventure," in which she lip-synced the 1972 Academy Award for Best Original Song, "The Morning After." The song was released by singer Maureen McGovern, reaching success with a Gold Record in 1973. She also appeared regularly on television, in shows such as "The Big Valley," "Mannix," "It Takes a Thief," "Night Gallery," "The Invaders," "Kojak," "Hawaii Five-O" and "The Night Stalker." From 1960 to 1964, she was married to publicist Michael Selsman, which produced a daughter. Carol Lynley died of a heart attack at age 77 in 2019.
