Donald Jerone Wheeler age 91 born 30 Jul 1917 to Tess Merritt and William Wheeler in Milton County, Georgia died Wednesday, 1 Apr 2009.
Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, 3 Apr 2009 at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home Chapel in Marietta with Rev. Dr. Bill Ross officiating. Burial will be private.
Mr. Wheeler entered the Army after Pearl Harbor. He received a medical discharge after two years of service. He then went to college on the GI Bill and received a BA from UGA. He worked for Carr Lane Manufacturing Company of St. Louis, Missouri for over 50 years as a manufacturer representative traveling the southeast selling aircraft tooling supplies. He furnished tooling to McDonald Douglas, Boeing, and Lockheed Aircraft among others.
During those years he represented numerous other companies under the banner of Don Wheeler & Associates, Inc. He retired at age 88 and was a long standing member of SME Tooling and Manufacturing Society. He was a Shriner.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Gloria L. Wheeler, daughter, Jan Wheeler of Sandy Springs; step-sons, Lewis Young & wife Linda of Isle of Palms, SC; Marvin Young & wife, Gayle of Marietta; grandsons Hank Young, Tate Young, James Young, Jr. all of Marietta; and six great grandchildren. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
In Lieu of Flowers, contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Marietta, 148 Church Street, Marietta, Georgia 30060.
