His friends throughout Bunscombe County and Western North Carolina will be grieved to learn of the sudden death yesterday morning of George W. Curtis, age 85 of Candler. Mr. Curtis died at his home. He had been able to go about his work until a few days ago.
Deceased was one of Bunscombe County's most prosperous farmers. He took an active part in civic affairs in his community and was admired by all who knew him. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Curtis. He had several relatives who reside in Asheville.
Mr. Curtis served in the Confederate Army, being a member of Company I, 25th North Carolina regiment, and frequently attended the meetings of the local Chapter of United Confederate Veterans.
