Major League Baseball Player. For twelve seasons (1954 and 1956 to 1966), he played at the second baseman position with the Detroit Tigers and Milwaukee/Atlanta Braves. Born Frank Elmore Bolling, he attended McGill-Toolen Catholic High School and later Spring Hill College, prior to being signed as an amateur free agent by the Detroit Tigers in 1951. He broke into the big leagues on April 13, 1954 after securing the starting second baseman position and played in 117 games that season. His career was interrupted while he served with the United States military (1955). During the course of his career, he established himself as a steady and reliable defender and earned distinction when he received the Gold Glove Award in 1958. Additionally, he achieved All-Star status four times. In 1,540 career regular season games, he compiled 1,415 hits with a .254 lifetime batting average. His older brother Milt was a Major League Baseball player from 1952 to 1958 and teammate of Frank while with the Detroit Tigers (1958). He died from cancer.
