Americus Conner, retired pastor of the Disciples of Christ, passed away at the age of 78 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Pearl Hackleman. Americus was also the founder of the Boys' Friend movement. He was born in Shelby County to James & Ruth America (Wood) Conner. James was a pioneer pastor in Indiana. Americus held pastorates in multiple states - including Indiana, Pennsylvania, Illinois and even Canada. He founded the Boys' Friend movement in 1909. He moved his family to Indianapolis in 1924.
Americus is survived by his wife, one daughter, a foster dauhter, four great grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
