Major League Baseball Player. He pitched for both Major League Baseball's Los Angeles Dodgers and Kansas City Royals from 1979 to 1986. He played baseball collegiately at Auburn University. In 1975, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Cotuit Kettleers of the Cape Cod Baseball League. He was drafted by both the Cleveland Indians (1976) and the Los Angeles Dodgers (1977) in the Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft. He went on to make his Major League Baseball debut in 1979 with the Dodgers and pitched for them for the next four years before joining the Kansas City Royals in 1984. For the next two years, he pitched for the Royals before rejoining the Dodgers in 1986. During his career, he was a part of two World Series championship teams (1981 Los Angeles Dodgers and 1985 Kansas City Royals). He retired after the 1986 season and later went into coaching youth baseball and softball. He was inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame in 2004. In 2021, the city of Auburn, Alabama declared April 21st as Joe Beckwith Day.
