Prince Sigismund of Prussia was born on November 27, 1896 in Kiel, Duchy of Schleswig-Holstein, German Empire as the second son of Prince Henry of Prussia (1862-1929) and Princess Irene of Hesse and by Rhine (1866-1953). Sigismund was born seven years after his elder brother the hemophiliac Prince Waldemar of Prussia (1889-1945). Sigismund had a younger brother named Prince Henry of Prussia (1900-1904) who was a hemophiliac just like his eldest brother, Henry died from a fall off a table at the age of four. Prince Sigismund married on July 11, 1919 at his parents estate Schloss Hemmelmark in Barkelsby, Germany to Princess Charlotte of Saxe-Altenburg (1899-1989). They had two children Princess Barbara of Prussia (1920-1994) and Prince Alfred of Prussia (1924-2013). After WWII, Prince Sigismund and his wife and son moved to Costa Rica, while his daughter Princess Barbara stayed in Germany and became her grandmother's heir. Prince Sigismund died on November 14, 1978 at his estate in Puntarenas, Costa Rica at the age of 81. After the death of her husband Princess Charlotte of Prussia moved back to Germany and settled into Schloss Hemmelmark with her daughter and her family, until her death on February 16, 1989 at the age of 89.
