She was born July 17, 1917 in Longmont to Albert and Josephine (Sweitzer) Cerny. She was raised in Longmont.
Evelyn graduated from Longmont High School in 1936.
She married James R. Whisman on November 10, 1938 in Longmont.
Evelyn was a homemaker, mother and rancher"s wife. She also worked for Ideal Market and Osco Drugs.
She was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church where she attended grade school.
Evelyn was an avid golfer, being a member of Sunset Women"s 9-hole League and Senior Golf League. She held several offices in the 9-hole league. She was active in Niwot Historical Society and was a 60-year member of Left Hand Grange. She was a good horsewoman, avid bowler and enjoyed traveling. Evelyn won the State Bowling Doubles Championship one year. She enjoyed attending Rockies games.
She was preceded in death by her husband James in 1997, an infant son, her parents, one brother, Charles Cerny and one sister, Maxine Cerny.
Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Mannos and husband James of Niwot; one brother, Donald Cerny of Longmont; three sisters, Alberta Clark of Longmont, Jean Murray of Anchorage, Alaska and Dorothy Behunin of Salt Lake City, Utah; several nieces and nephews and two sisters-in-law, Rosellen Goble of Greeley and Glenna Cerny of Longmont.
Visitation 5-8 PM with Vigil Service 7PM Tuesday, May 8 at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Mass of the Resurrection 10 AM Wednesday, May 9 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Interment Longmont Mountain View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Longmont Humane Society or to Colorado Horse Rescue and sent to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
