Born Thomas Winton Boggs, he was raised in Texas where he attended Lanier High School. Signed by the Texas Rangers as the number 2 overall pick during the 1974 Amateur Draft, he made his Major League debut on July 19, 1976. While with the Braves, he produced career-highs with 12 wins, 32 games-pitched and 192 innings. Additionally, he recorded 3 shutouts. In 114 career regular season games, he compiled a 20 win, 44 loss record, with a lifetime 4.22 ERA, in 584 innings pitched. After retiring as a player, he served as head coach of the baseball program at Concordia University.
