Albin Carl Hedlin was born on 8 May 1876 on the farm Hesta in Tämta, Älvsborgs Län, Väster Götland, Sweden. Albin was the forth of seven children born to Sophia Andersdotter and her husband Per August Hufvundsson. He was raised in Tämta and after completing his church confirmation of faith, he was allowed to work out as a hired boy to neighboring farmers, which was customary after confirmation.
Albin's older brother (Klas) Edward had emigrated from Sweden to Minnesota in 1892. On March 5, 1897 Ablin received his moving permit to leave the Tämta parish and thus began his immigration to North America. He left Southampton, England on 27 March 1897 on the ship S.S. Paris and arrived in New York Harbor on 5 April of that year. After being processed through Immigration he set out for Pope County, Minnesota where he filed his first intentions of citizenship in 1898. His citizenship was finalized at Minot, ND on November 6, 1903. In Minnesota he worked as a farm labor and in the winter in the woods doing lumberjack work. In 1900, he and his brother Edward followed the path of many others to North Dakota to file on a homestead. He filed on SW 1/4 11-160-90 Roseland Township and received the land patent on June 30, 1906.
Albin married Jennie Charlotta Peterson on January 12, 1904 in Farwell, Pope County, MN. They made their home on his homestead in ND where three children were born, Emma, Arthur and a child that died at birth. Jennie died at the farm on April 14, 1910 and she was buried in Farwell. In 1911, Albin sent for his sister Beda to come from Sweden to care for the children. She made her home with them until his marriage to Esther Cecelia Swanson on December 16, 1914 at Star Prairie, Wisconsin. Her sister was married to Rev. John Sorenson who was the minister at Niobe and that is how they became acquainted. With Esther two more children were born, Blanche and Warren.
He joined the Elmdale Swedish Lutheran Congregation of Roseland Township on April 5, 1905 and was a faithful contributor and worker in the congregation. In 1907 this congregation built their church in Niobe. Albin was a progressive farmer and established a beautiful home and large barn. He was active in his church and in community affairs. On August 2, 1943 he had an auction sale and retired from farming. They moved to Bowbells, ND in 1944 and in 1949 they built a new home in Kenmare, ND, where they lived until their deaths. Esther died on August 23, 1963 and Albin on September 18, 1963. Funeral was held in the Elmdale Lutheran Church on September 21st and burial was in the Elmdale Swedish Lutheran Cemetery beside his second wife Esther.
